Can Anyone Get Inexpensive Auto Insurance?

photo_7868_20090821There are just some people who are going to have to pay a lot more than others for their car insurance. If you fall into any one of the following categories, then you may be finding it very difficult to purchase inexpensive auto insurance:

1. You have multiple tickets on your driving record. If you have tickets for speeding well above the speed limit, or any DUI (DWI) arrest, you are unlikely to get a good price for your insurance.

2. If you have a credit rating that is sub-par, you will also pay more. If your credit score is less than 600, it is likely that you are paying for that in your insurance premium.

3. If you own a vehicle that is likely to be stolen, then your rate will be higher. Not all high-end cars are on this list. In fact, some of the most common, mid-range sedans will be more likely to be stolen than any other car on the market.

4. If you have ever driven without insurance, or you have a lapse of time since your last insured period, you will pay more.

Even with all of these situations, however, you can still get inexpensive auto insurance by following a few helpful hints. First of all, try and find insurance that allows you to pay monthly rather than semi-annually. You will also want to raise your deductible to $500 or $1,000 per incident in order to decrease the price.

You never want to have the “state minimum” coverage or go to an insurance company that specializes in that kind of coverage. Most state minimum coverage actually costs more than normal coverage. Take the time to shop around, be upfront about the issues you have had in the past, and be prepared to raise your deductible to get the price you need.
